This is an attempt to collect a debt

Debt….

Now there's a word that we all can agree on is something no one likes to hear or even think about. For most of us when we hear the word debt, we may think of government spending, mortgage payments or maybe even school loans. The idea of debt is so terrifying for people that some will even spend money on other people to tell them how to save money and not get into debt. Now obviously financial debt is a big deal and all of us should do everything we can to be good stewards of what God has given us.

However as bad as financial debt can be, all of us have a much bigger debt that we are born with that bankrupts us before we could ever think about finances. The debt I'm talking about is our sin and every single person not only has this debt, but we also have no way of making the payments and the only thing it gives us is death. But there is good news for all of us, there is a way that we can be free of this crippling debt and even be able to live. So, let's get started and see what Gods word says.

In Romans 3:23 we see this truth, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. After reading this I looked up the word all in the Greek just to see the meaning and guess what, it means all or every. So now that we have seen Gods word, the only truth we have, that not only do we have this debt, but it truly is all of us. So now that we have the bad news out of the way let's see what else Gods word says about the good news that is available .

In Colossians 2:13-14 we read this: When you were  dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

See Jesus paid the price for your debts with His life because that is what our debts cost and He did it willingly. Not only that but He cancelled out the debt after he paid it off and allowed us to live freely.

Now there are two types of responses for Christians after this. We may think that somehow, we have work out a deal with God like a debt collector since we somehow have to earn this; or we forget where we came from and we think I'm good I already know this. I say obviously both are wrong because these verses that we read were written to believers, and it reminds us not only who we are but also where we came from. We need to know that as believers we are debt free in Christ, and we need to remember its Christ alone that brought us out of debt. The truth is the budget for Gods grace has no end and God will never ever come to the place where His mercies end as they are new every morning.

If you are a believer allow this quote from Christopher Love to speak to you, “Grace is the understanding that God is a better savior than you are a sinner”

For those of you today who don't know Jesus, unlike a debt collector, He will actually take your debt of sin and He will pay the price for you. Allow the shed blood of Christ to cancel out your debt and stamp it paid in full.
